Oral Cancer Screening

While some think this is a rare cancer, mouth cancer will be newly diagnosed in about 100 new individuals each day in the US alone, and a person dies from oral cancer every hour of every day. When found at early stages of development, oral cancer patients have an 80 to 90% survival rate. Unfortunately at this time, the majority of oral cancers are found in the later stages. When found in the late stages the survival rate decreases to 45% at five years from diagnosis.

Your Dentist or Dental Hygienist will complete a thorough oral cancer screening exam every six months to a year. This may include the use of a VELscope Vx, a fluorescent diagnostic light. If a suspicious lesion is noted, a non-invasive, Oral CDx Brush Biopsy can be accomplished.
